II. The Importance of the Cross

The cross was a tool to execute criminals. Jesus was not a criminal; He died for others. Anyone who believes in Jesus and that salvation from sin comes through Jesus’ death on the cross will be saved. Read carefully what Paul wrote to some ancient believers, “You, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross.”

Paul’s words paint a dramatic picture. The record of our sins was against us. That record condemned us to die. Jesus chose to die as our substitute. As He was nailed to the cross so was the record of our sin. As He died our record was destroyed. Man’s salvation was finished on the cross.
